Tithonia diversifolia grows 10-16 feet in height with upright stalks in the form of woody shrubs. The large, showy flowers are typically yellow colored.
T. diversifolia can be used as a green fertilizer typically using the chop and drop method. It can also be used as chicken feed, fuelwood, soil erosion control, and building materials. For fertilization, it is used as a mulch which can be spread on top of the soil or buried beneath. Using the plant as a fertilizer has proven to increase crop yields. T. diversifolia has the ability to restore phosphorus in high amounts to the soil. As a fertilizer it contains 1.76% N, 0.82% P, and 3.92% K. All three properties are lower in cattle manure, and P is higher in poultry and swine manure.

How to plant
Bury 1/2 of each cutting, angle cut up, into soil in full sun and place a row cover or similar to diffuse the sunlight and diminish shock until a few leaves begin to grow. Be sure to maintain moderate moisture. Gradually remove shade cover over the course of a few days.

We try not to ship too close to the weekend, as a Sunday in a truck or mailbox does no good for live plants and cuttings. Once we pack and send the cuttings they typically arrive 2-3 days later.
